Moseley Road Baths was not always just used for swimming. When it first opened it was too expensive to heat the pool during the Winter. The pool was emptied and a floor was put over it so that people could come and play game there. Large numbers of people came to play card games or billiards (a game a bit like snooker), but it became most famous for its dances. Bands would come and play lively music and people would travel from miles around to come and dance.
“It was all very romantic, doing the foxtrot, quick step, tango, always with a dance band and a mainly teenage audience. I used to go on my bike with my dance shoes over my shoulder.”Betty Amos (1940s)
