The age, and the ongoing cost of maintaining Moseley Road Baths, means that the building is under constant threat of closure. However, with a loyal and vocal community of local swimmers and residents, its Grade II* listing, and Birmingham City Council’s requirement to provide swimming facilities, attempts to close it have been met with fierce opposition.
“The energy and passion of Moseley Road Baths’ supporters is quite astounding and makes it quite clear to the Council that any proposed closure will be met with uproar. The building is vital to the health of individuals and to the health of the community who come together under its roof. That was the vision 105 years ago, and it is a vision that we need to fight for today.”Rachel Gillies (2013)
